Year 13 - 2024
Big Love in a Small House
It was early spring when Team Holland heard about the sweet couple—the ones with hearts bigger than their square footage.
They had opened their home to four children, saying yes to the unknown, yes to the messy, yes to love. The dream? Adoption. The reality? A house that simply didn’t have the space for the new life blooming inside it.
That’s when Team Holland stepped in for a special spring project—fewer volunteers, but just as much heart.
Over the course of a few focused days, the dining room was skillfully transformed into a cozy extra bedroom, giving one more child a space to call their own. The garage—once cold and cluttered—was turned into a joyful, functional playroom and family hangout space. Fresh paint brightened the walls, and new flooring gave the home a fresh foundation, both literally and emotionally.
Though this wasn’t a massive crew or a major headline project, the impact was undeniable. Every nail hammered, every brushstroke, every floorboard laid whispered the same message:
“You are not alone in this.”
The couple never once asked for help. But the help came anyway—because love like theirs deserved a space to grow.
At the end of the project, the children danced through the new playroom, laughter echoing off fresh-painted walls. The couple stood in quiet awe, eyes full of tears and gratitude.
“And if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness…” — Isaiah 58:10
That day, the house didn’t just get bigger.
The light got brighter.
And love found room to live.
