Year 1 - 2012
The Original Team Holland Weekend
The air was crisp that November morning as the sun rose over the quiet house at the end of the lane. It had been a long, heavy season since Matt Holland’s passing—a hole left in the lives of all who loved him. But this weekend was different. This weekend, the original Team Holland showed up.
They came with tool belts and gloves, rakes and ladders, hearts and prayers. Friends who had walked with Matt through life now came to walk with his family—Cindy and Leah—through the early days of grief.
With hammers echoing on the rooftop and laughter rising from the yard, a house that had felt too quiet was filled again with the sounds of life. The team replaced the old roof with steady hands and unwavering love, each nail a silent tribute to a man who had built so much more than just a home. Down below, others cleaned the yard and supported smaller needs in the house.
And in between the work, there were moments. Shared stories, tearful hugs, quiet prayers, and lots of laughter.. Cindy, with her ever-giving heart, finally allowed herself to lean on others.
As the sun dipped below the trees on Sunday evening, the yard was clean, the roof was strong, and the house stood just a little taller. But more importantly, so did Cindy and Leah.
Because this weekend wasn't just about fixing things—it was about showing up. It was about reminding each other that no one walks through the valley alone.
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” — Galatians 6:2 (NIV)
And that’s exactly what they did.
